Our
Journey:
Avalon's Army of Angels

Exciting email
I received the nicest email today.  As you know, we have agreed to be a "Spotlight Family"
for this year's Ohio State Buckeyethon.  While we're not sure just what being a 'Spotlight
Family' entails, we do know we promised we'd do anything we can to help the cause.  I'm so
proud of these college kids, I'll literally try to stand my plump old fanny on my head, if they
think it would help them.

Today, I found the following email in my Inbox.  I whole-heartedly admit that it made me
weepy.  Maybe, just maybe, all of Avalon's struggles will actually reach someone...and make
a difference.

Here's the email:

Hi Mrs. Hall. My name is Maggie Barrett, and I'm the Alumni and Community Relations Chair
for BuckeyeThon 2009. I am writing to you today about a marketing campaign we are
running that involves your daughter. This week on campus we are using the phrase "Ask
Avalon" to build up excitement about the dance marathon. It's being used as a dancer
recruitment tool. The idea is that on Tuesday night, about 40 students will plaster signs and
chalk and make words in the snow to simply say "Ask Avalon". Wednesday the rest of the
campus will see this phrase everywhere and wonder what is going on . We will remain silent
about who did it and what it means all day. Thursday, we will be wearing shirts and name
tags that say "I am Avalon" in the hope that students will come up to us for an explanation.
This will tie them into the event and lead to more money raised for Nationwide.

We are also asking for your involvement. I was hoping that at some point Friday you and
Avalon would be available to end the campaign with a bang on "Meet Avalon" day. Please let
me know what you think of this and if and when your family is available. Thank you so
much!!!

For the kids,

Maggie Barrett

It took about half a second for me to respond with a resounding, "YES!  We'll be there!"  I'll
let you know how it goes...
